What to Wear to a Wedding

For Fall 2018-Spring 2019

When attending weddings, I never want to take attention away from the bride.  There are a few big rules that I follow when it comes to dressing for weddings that keeps it simple:

  1. Don’t Wear White: While we are seeing more brides choose to put their bridal party in white, off-white, or nude to create a monochromatic look, I still feel that as a guest we should avoid this color.  Some may see it as an old-school rule, but I feel very strongly about respecting the bride’s moment.  Be careful to avoid all shades of white, cream, champagne, or even light golds and tans.
  2. Dress for the Occasion: Always check the invitation or wedding site for the dress code.  No one wants to experience that awkward moment when you show up in an evening gown to a casual affair.  While I do believe it’s always better to be over-dressed than under-dressed, check out this great guide from The Knot that breaks down everything you need to know about dress codes.
  3. Don’t Outshine the Bride: Literally.  While I love to have fun with fashion and dress up whenever possible, make sure your outfit doesn’t take attention away from the bride.  Avoid all-over sequins, loud prints on bright backgrounds, and (this is a personal preference) extremely vibrant colors like fire engine red, chartreuse, and hot pink.  Note: this can all vary depending on your bride.  If you bride loves bright colors and wants this to be a part where everyone shines, by all means go for all the bold, sequins, crazy printed things.  It’s all about knowing your bride, venue and the overall vibe for the wedding.  As always: if you try something on and don’t feel comfortable in it, don’t wear it.

I love a nice LBD for wedding season as long as it fits the dress code.  While some like to avoid it, I think that it’s classic classic, easy to wear, and always flattering.  It can also act as a great canvas for fun accessories!  My French Connection off-the-shoulder dress from The Pink Hanger is a great example with it’s flirty ruffle neckline.  This look is something that I’d wear to a casual/dressy wedding on the coast or a tropical destination.  Just swap out the slides for a heeled version and you’re all set!  The accessories make a statement all on their own and add a little bit of fun to a classic dress.

I’ve pulled together some more great dresses and jumpsuits for you to shop below, ranging from casual to formal.  I have also included a mix of items available in sizes 0-32.  To shop, just click on the image of the dress you’re interested in.  There are a lot of blush and burgundy dresses because those are two of my favorite colors for both Fall and Spring.  You may also see some sequins and bright colors for those who know they can be a little bold.  If you have any questions about the dresses in today’s post comment below and I’ll make sure to reply as best as possible with some helpful tips.
