Cocktail Hour: Dublin Mules
Perfect for St. Patrick's Day
If you need to know one thing about me it’s that I love a good cocktail. Whether I’m out with friends at happy hour after work, catching up with someone, grabbing a night cap after dinner or entertaining at home, I love the creativity behind craft cocktails and the way they can bring people together. St. Patrick’s Day is this week and what better way to celebrate than enjoy a new twist on a classic: the Dublin Mule. Being an Irish girl through and through, I love good whiskey. So instead of making the typical Moscow Mule with vodka, I swapped in my favorite fool-proof spirit of choice, Jameson. This recipe can be made with either alcoholic or non-alcoholic ginger beer. I used Crabbie’s and it was delicious! In addition to their original flavor, they offer several other unique options like Spiced Orange and Scottish Raspberry. However, you can always use the ginger beer of your choice. Below is the recipe. Cheers!
The Dublin Mule
1-1.5 shots of Jameson
1/2-1 Tbsp of lime juice (I used fresh, but feel free to use bottled)
1 lime, sliced in wedges for garnish
fresh mint
ginger beer
1. Place 4-5 leaves of fresh mint in each copper mug or tumbler of choice. Muddle with 1-1.5 shots of Jameson. If you don’t have a muddler, you can use the end of a wooden spoon.
2. Fill cup about halfway with ice. Cubed is easiest, but crushed is a top choice. You can always add more later if you prefer.
3. Pour in 1/2 tablespoon of lime (or more, to taste) and fill the remainder of the drink up with ginger beer. Stir and garnish with a wedge of lime.
