valentine’s date night
moto jacket (similar) // tie neck blouse (similar) // tulle skirt
lace-up shoes // fringe clutch
Contrary to my previous post, my husband and I don’t typically give each other extravagant Valentine’s Day gifts. Even when we were dating! Instead, we prefer to take advantage of the holiday by getting dressed up and splurging on an incredible meal where we can spend quality time together. During the week we tend to get caught up in the craziness and barely see each other. Valentine’s Day is a great excuse to relax and indulge. Sometimes this means indulging in something new to add to my wardrobe!
Badgley Mischka’s “Windswept Skirt” is fun and feminine; perfect for a special date night! The tulle overlay hits about mid-calf (unless you’re under 5’5″, like me, then it’s almost ankle length) and moves beautifully as you walk or when the wind catches it. I love it with a ballet inspired shoe, such as these lace-up pumps, or even a pointed toe flat! I know this skirt has a higher price point that can be a little daunting. You could find a less expensive version, or you could consider this an investment! You can also rent it from RentTheRunway.com to avoid any commitment. Later this week I’ll be showing you how to work this item into a more casual day look. For now, consider this look an example of (1) how to dress high-low and (2) how to mix old items in your closet with something shiny and new!
While the skirt is designer, the moto jacket is made of vegan leather from Urban Outfitters. I have had it for six years. No joke. Obviously it is no longer available, so I found a similar version by Members Only. The red tie neck blouse is a great item that you can wear with jeans for a 70’s inspired look or something classic like this skirt. The color screams Valentine’s Day! The one I’m wearing is from DKNY, but I found one for a killer deal from Double Zero. Guess what? It’s just under $50! The shoes are an affordable option from asos.com that also come in vibrant “hot tomato,” which is an orange/red color. I’m contemplating buying them in the second color when they go on sale! How cute would they be with jeans?!? Especially for summer!
I hope this look inspires you to have fun with your next date night outfit! Remember: you don’t have to dress designer head-to-toe. Mix in a new item with an “oldie but a goodie” from your closet or pair a splurge with something that you snagged for a great price. Most importantly: wear something that makes you feel amazing! When you feel good, you look good.
Love that skirt!
