Black Artists, Creators and Businesses You Can Support

Prior to this last year when I looked around my home, in my closet or in my vanity I never stopped to think about who was making the goods that surround me. Of course, there were some personal items or family heirlooms that have special meaning behind them, but nothing outside of that that was purchased understanding the ripple effect of that transaction. Who made this? Who was benefiting from this purchase and supporting their dreams? How was I making a positive change in someone’s life with my dollar?

I learned a lot during 2020 and one of my biggest take-aways was the importance of supporting Black-owned businesses and Black creators so that we can bridge the racial wealth gap. It made our family more conscious of how we spend our money, support inclusivity, equity and diversity.

I hope you will do the same by taking time to read about this issue and support black-owned businesses and creators. Below is a list of some amazing companies and individuals that I know you will love:

Olivia’s nursery was the perfect opportunity to start taking action in our home. It began with this beautiful print by Michelle Robinson. Titled “Home” the print reminds me that raising a child takes a village and that home is where your heart and your community is. Michelle Robinson’s artwork is incredible and I hope to own an original piece one day.
