tips for transitioning to spring

As I’m writing this post the weather app I use is saying the high in Charlotte today is 77 degrees (F).  Earlier this week we were in the 40’s.  Obviously mother nature is taking a sharp turn into the Spring season and it’s time to start thinking about transitioning our wardrobes to warmer temperatures.  Here are my three tips for dressing in between seasons:

  1. Layers Layers Layers: keep a lightweight jacket on hand to throw over t-shirts, tanks and dresses
  2. Have a Range of Shoe Options: if wearing a short dress, reach for booties; when you’re wearing jeans go for an open-toe or sandals to keep things cool
  3. Balance Out Sleeve Lengths: This plays on the layering tip, but you want to balance out your hemlines and your sleeve lengths so that you always have one half covered while the other is more bare.  For example, this is a time where you can feel comfortable wearing a lightweight sweater over cut-off shorts or a tank with long jeans.  I love pairing long sleeves with short skirts and sandals!  The body’s quick cooling spots (as in if you’re hot, expose them or put ice on them) are: legs, feet, wrists, and neckline.  Read more about cooling spots here.

This lightweight cold shoulder sweater is a great transition piece because it rides the line between Spring and Winter.  It’s just warm enough!  I like that my shoulders and neckline are exposed so I can keep cool if the temperatures rise throughout the day.  I’ve layered it over a tank top and jeans.  However, it could easily be worn with cut-off denim shorts later in the season.  The entire look, with the exception of my accessories, is from Luxe Angel Boutique.  They’re having a great sale right now so if you’re in the Charlotte area you should definitely hit them up!  Lisa has the best selection of essential and fashion denim.  If you work with her I guarantee you’ll walk out of there with a new pair that fits perfectly!

My accessories are from several different places that I’ve collected over the last year or two.  You all know I love this mini-bucket bag from H&M!  I’ve linked a very similar one for you to shop.  The wrap choker is from BaubleBar and it’s on sale for only $18!  It’s a great piece to wear all year round and always fun to style in the Summer.  My bracelet stack is a combination of vintage items (turquoise bangle and large gold textured bangle), pieces made by Kendle Starcher of Neon Love Story, and Holst+Lee.  I’m always switching up my arm party based on the color story of an outfit.  With this look I really wanted to play with the combination of burgundy and turquoise.  They’re different shades of primary colors and the contrast added something unexpected and pretty!

Hope everyone enjoys the warm weather in Charlotte this weekend!  If you’re out and about today, it is the last day of the local boutique blowout sale.  It runs 10am-5pm at Morrison Shopping Center: 3920 Sharon Road in the old Queen City Ballroom location.

Happy Friday!!
