Pin-spiration: Accessories

My Latest Pinterest Finds

I’m a very active Pinterest person lately because it’s a fun way to get inspired and find new ideas.  If you’re not following me yet, you can find me at www.pinterest.com/lolo_russell.  Unfortunately, I’ve been in a bit of an accessory rut.  Accessories are usually the key to updating a look or elevating an outfit.  You can ask anyone who knows me: clothes are my bread and butter; handbags, shoes, and accessories are my addiction.  They’re so easy to say yes to! These items can be a budget friendly way to update your wardrobe a little bit. Here are some of the latest Pinterest finds that are inspiring me. I’ve included items to shop below each one so you can get the look!

Silk scarves are having a moment. Really more than a moment. Silk scarvess are classic, so they won’t be going anywhere. What changes about them, in terms of trends, is how we wear them. If you’ve watched my Instagram stories recently, then you know I’ve been re-watching Gossip Girl. My friend Lauren Sims unintentionally prompted me to select it as my latest Netflix binge when she posted about watching it while on the treadmill.  If you’re not following her on Instagram and subscribed to her blog, you should! She has an effortlessly chic, casual style that I admire. She recently sported a headscarf on Instagram and pulled if off so well!  Make sure to show it some love and check out her blog at laurenkaysims.com. Anyway, I don’t know why I didn’t do it sooner, there is so much fashion inspiration that you can draw from Gossip Girl! There are also plenty of trends that have died since then (like bubble hem dresses) that we can look back and laugh at. One of them that I feel is coming back is wearing silk scarves as headbands. Serena regularly rocks this on the show and I’ve seen it on a few other bloggers out there. I’ll definitely be trying this out soon!

OK, so this may be a tougher idea for everyone to get on board with, but hear me out. Body chains were gaining traction back in 2010-2011-ish time. I remember Courtney Kerr wearing one when she was on Most Eligible Dallas and thought she pulled it off perfectly. I wish I could find a picture. There have been plenty of other celebrities, too. I certainly wouldn’t call it a trend right now, but I think its a fun idea regardless. The key is making them subtle. They can easily go from sexy to trashy real quick. Popsugar actually has a great article on how to wear body chains. Speaking to the thigh chain specifically, this is idea is really best for summer months paired back to maxi dress with high slits or denim shorts. Add it to a boho outfit…think Coachella. In fact, music festivals might be the only appropriate place to wear a thigh chain, but I don’t care. I still think its fun even thought it is a little risque.

Hair accessories can make a look feel more put together because it says “I put effort in” without actually having to. I love the idea of a really simple, clean clip to pull hair away from your face and act as a piece of jewelry at the same time. You can shop this exact hair clip below, as well as some other modern ones I found for you.

I don’t have multiple ear piercings, so I don’t think I could wear this actual earring. It is really beautiful though. This is definitely one that you need to wear your hair up with! I’ve pulled together some other constellation-inspired earrings below that only require a single ear piercing.

As I mentioned below the first pin in this post, silk scarves are very on trend right now. The most popular way to wear them is around your neck. You can tie them loosely or wrap them like a choker as they have in this Pin. It’s easy to upgrade your basic t-shirt and jeans look. Navy is a softer color than black, which I prefer if I’m pairing it back to a white top. While high contrast colors are fun to play with, you want to keep any look with a necktie easy and effortless. Think cool girl chic.
